Why Workmanship Matters in Refinishing
A refinished surface is only as good as the preparation and application behind it.
Professional refinishing involves more than simply applying a new coating.
The quality of these steps can directly affect the finished result.
That is why NU-COAT places such a strong emphasis on preparation and workmanship.
The process may include:
- Evaluating the existing surface
- Removing contaminants
- Preparing worn areas
- Repairing appropriate chips or cracks
- Addressing previous coatings
- Preparing fiberglass surfaces
- Applying the refinishing system
- Following proper curing requirements

Our Refinishing Work Is Built Around Proper Preparation
Before a surface is refinished, NU-COAT evaluates its condition and prepares it for the new finish.
Depending on the project, that may include:
Surface Cleaning
Soap residue, oils, mineral buildup, and other contaminants are removed before refinishing.
Surface Preparation
The existing surface is prepared so the refinishing system can properly bond.
Repairs
Appropriate chips, scratches, minor cracks, and surface imperfections are addressed before the finish is applied.
Previous Coating Evaluation
If a tub or shower has already been refinished, the condition of the old coating may require additional preparation.
Fiberglass Evaluation
Weak, cracked, or flexing fiberglass surfaces may require repair or reinforcement before refinishing.
How to Care for Your Refinished Surface
Allow the surface to cure for the time specified in your project instructions before using it.
Clean the surface with recommended non-abrasive products and a soft cloth or sponge. Follow the care and maintenance instructions provided after the job.
NU-COAT generally recommends:
- Mild, non-abrasive bathroom cleaners
- Soft cloths or sponges
- Avoiding harsh chemicals
- Avoiding abrasive powders
- Avoiding aggressive scrub pads

Allow the Finish to Cure Properly
Most NU-COAT refinishing projects can be completed in one day, but the surface still needs time to cure before regular use.
NU-COAT provides project-specific instructions after the work is completed.
Using the surface too soon could affect the new finish, so following the recommended curing instructions is important.
The required cure time may vary depending on:
- Surface type
- Project scope
- Repairs performed
- Environmental conditions
- Refinishing system used
